Seraph by pentipentipen Seraph by pentipentipen
I drew this for my English project. We are allowed to choose any kind of topic that we like, and i ended up choosing 'Fictional Creatures'. I did some research in order to draw all 11 pictures, and I used all of them to support my Powerpoint presentation about the topic.

media : coloring pencil
paper size : A4

I learned from my research that Seraph is the highest class of Angel. They are standing around God's throne to sing praises and they possess 6 wings, a pair covering their eyes, another pair to fly and the last pair to cover their feet.

I am trying to use sea green to color the wings, I thought I was making a big mistake, but surprisingly, the result was preety unique. So, I ended up falling in love with this one.

Wrong.  Archangels were the highest and had six wings.  Where did you do your research, manga comics?

No. The Bible.

But if there was a manga of the Bible, I'd be all over it.

Actually, the artist is correct.

Isaiah 6:2 "Above him were Seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying."

The Choirs, ranked from highest to lowest, are as follows:

Sphere 1-
  • Seraphim
  • Cherubim
  • Ophanim

Sphere 2-
  • Dominions
  • Virtues
  • Powers

Sphere 3-
  • Principalities
  • Archangels
  • Angels

One of my very favourite passages of scripture is the vision from Isaiah of God enthroned:

6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

And that is only a theophony (representative vision) of the awesome God who became incarnate as a man and humbled himself to death on a cross to save us from the punishment we rightly deserve for our sin. As the song goes, "Amazing love, how can it be, that you my King should die for me?"

not sure if you know the story line behind the wings. the wings cover the eyes because even they are not allowed to turn thier eyes upon god and some speculate that when they say to cover the feet that it is reffering to genitallia. ^_^ dont you feel wiser now. wonderfull picture and i would like to see some of the other 11 that went with your project
